The field of hypnotherapy continues to expand and hypnotherapy training focuses on several areas, such as behavioral hypnosis, medical and dental hypnosis, sports hypnosis, forensic hypnosis, business and education hypnosis, regression hypnosis, and the use of hypnotherapy as a tool in psychology.
Hypnotherapy training can be basic, intermediate, or advanced. Certification may be obtained through weekend classes, apprenticeship training, a residential intensive format, or distance learning. Hypnotherapy training ranges from individual classes to four-year post-graduate studies. Many students will opt to enhance their hypnotherapy education with related courses such as Counseling or Life Coaching.
Hypnotherapy schools are regulated by the state in which they do business, so seek one that is state-approved. Upon completion of your hypnotherapy training, check with your state for rules and regulations that pertain to practicing as a hypnotherapist. At the present time, there are no licensing requirements for practicing hypnotists, nor any accredited university degree programs.
